CULTURE

Our company is built on creativity, relationships, excellence, stewardship and teamwork (also known as ‘CREST’). And our top priority is simple: we seek to serve not just our customers, but each other. We strive to understand each employee’s talents and utilize them for the maximum benefit of the individual and the company.

We are stable and strong, in areas like supply-chain management, business relationships and financial control. But we are also flexible and improving, when it comes to customer needs and market shifts.

We don’t ever settle for good enough. We always aim for better. Our persistent pursuit of excellence is done with our customers in mind. When industry best practices don’t suit our clients’ specifications, we redefine quality. We take accountability. And we exceed needs.

That’s not just our job. That’s our culture.

What do our employees say?

After 11 years, I am still learning. I don’t think it’s possible to ever know everything there is to know in this business, so I try to be a sponge and soak up everything I can.

– Katy Carson, Inside Sales/Account Manager

“At Superior Steel Supply we know the value of teamwork and the value of helping one another out. By helping each other out we are better able to serve our customers and vendors.”

– Karen Hurley, Assistant Controller

“In the steel industry, it is easy to get caught up in trying to make a quick sale. We want to build a lasting partnership and trust that can be counted on in the long term.”

– Brooks Odle, Partner/Outside Sales

“It was about 6-8 months after I started with SSS and Landon got swamped with his work. Jordan came up from Indiana for 2 weeks to help in any way possible to keep the customer moving. We set up an ‘HQ desk’ (a desk that held all information about a specific customer) that the three of us could use to see what needed to be completed. Between the three of us, the inside sales team and Aaron, the COO, we were able to work together to ensure the customer was supplied with steel, and all other accounts were serviced properly. This showed me the commitment and teamwork of the inside sales group and how we could get things done.”

– Andrew Brouwer, Purchasing

Chris Reid
Chief Executive Officer/President

After starting the company in 2000, Chris spent the last 2 decades building relationships and creating solutions to grow a business that serves customers throughout the US. As the company tagline says, his focus is “to build lives as strong as our steel.”

His decisions are guided by his belief in God and his love of Christ, and he instills these values throughout Superior Steel Supply. Aaron Reid
Chief Operations Officer

Aaron has worked in the steel industry for over a decade – all with Superior Steel. It has been a great place to learn the steel industry. His credence…honor God, serve other people. These two principles provide a healthy balance for work and life. Investing in others brings a legacy of faithfulness. Serving customers and growing relationships are fundamental to any business or professional endeavor.

He is pursuing a Master’s degree to keep learning and growing. One of his key aspirations is hiring the next generation of leaders to learn the business and help it thrive after the first generation is gone. Coaching varsity basketball, teaching, spending time with family and traveling with his wife are his favorite activities outside of work.

Quote from Aaron: “We have great customers and business partners, many who have become lifelong friends. I was blessed to be asked to speak at a colleague’s retirement (in a company who could have been considered a competitor) to honor the gentleman who was retiring.”

Joe Pitra
Vice President of Sales

Joe has over 35 years in the steel industry – the last 13 with Superior Steel. Through integrity and honesty, his goals are to contribute to the current success and growth of the company and to train and prepare the future of the company. He wants to make it a better place than it was when he arrived.

Outside of work, Joe is a dad, a husband and the guy next door with all the tools. He likes to travel with his wife, especially to see their children. He is an avid outdoorsman, enjoys hunting and fishing, and likes to grill and to relax on his boat.

Quote from Joe: “I have worked at a few companies and made dozens of real friends. My story is a bunch of stories with fellow employees and customers alike. I have been blessed and privileged to know the people I know. Everything we have done is a story and every story is a good one.
